This past week saw two TY Business teams take part in the Stripe I Wish Entrepreneurship Programme held in the RDS on Tuesday, February 28.

Based on business idea proposals submitted by both teams, the girls were selected along, with three other teams nationwide to be part of this programme – a wonderful achievement!

The programme was specifically aimed at female TY students and was designed to ignite creative thinking, jumpstart student ideas, and inspire more female-led business creation in the years ahead.

Pres Thurles TY students Katie Conway, Isabella Madden and Emma Mahony pitched their business idea at I Wish Stripe Competition

Since November, the girls were mentored online by Stripe members to develop their ideas. This culminated in both teams pitching their business ideas Dragon’s Den style to a panel of judges – Jamie Heaslip, Stripe; India Healy O’Connor, Zelda and Kate Fallon, Entrepreneur.

Their pitch was followed by a Q&A session. The girls presented their ideas with confidence, business acumen and a sense of humour.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to win the €5,000 prize money presented by Minster Simon Coveney. This was a wonderful experience for all involved, with valuable key skills developed throughout the process. Well done to the girls on both teams: Emma Mahony, Katie Conway and Isabella Madden and Blathnaid Lloyd, Orla Maher, Tiani Garrett and Amy Reddan.

A huge thank you must go to their mentor and teacher, Ms Elaine Corbett, who gave the girls endless support and advice throughout this experience.
