Searchlight Pictures has unveiled a brand new Poor Things video for its upcoming sci-fi period comedy, which will arrive in select theaters on December 8. It will then be followed by its wide release on December 22.
The video features Oscar winner Emma Stone discussing what viewers can expect to see from her Frankenstein-like character, Bella Baxter, who’s discovering the world for the first time. Director Yorgos Lanthimos and other cast members also tease Stone’s incredible performance, with Lanthimos saying that the project wouldn’t have been possible without her.

What is Poor Things about?
“The film is an incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter,” reads the synopsis. “Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn, a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.”
Poor Things is directed by Lanthimos from a screenplay written by Tony McNamara, based on Alasdair Gray’s novel of the same name, which is a reimagination of the Frankenstein story. Joining Stone are Willem Dafoe as Godwin Baxter, Mark Ruffalo as Duncan Wedderburn, Ramy Youssef as Max McCandless, Jerrod Carmichael as Harry Astley, Christopher Abbott as Sir Aubrey de la Pole Blessington, Margaret Qualley as Felicity, and Kathryn Hunter as Swiney.
