Rishi Sunak’s family was “reminded of the rules” around walking a dog on a lead in Hyde Park, police have confirmed.
A video was posted on TikTok appearing to show the prime minister and his family allowing their pet dog Nova to roam freely.
A notice board can be seen in the video which says “dogs must be kept on leads”.
Mr Sunak and what appears to be his wife, Akshata Murthy, putting the dog on a leash.
“We are aware of a video showing a dog being walked off the lead in Hyde Park,” a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.
“An officer, who was present at the time, spoke to a woman and reminded her of the rules.
“The dog was put back on the lead.”
Nova, a Labrador retriever, took up residence in Number 11 in 2021, when Mr Sunak was chancellor in Boris Johnson’s government.
It is not known when the clip was filmed.
The officer who spoke to the Sunaks is understood to be the PM’s personal protection officer.
Asked about the video, a spokesman for Mr Sunak said: “I’m not going to be commenting on the filming of the prime minister’s family and private individuals.
“You can see the video, it speaks for itself.”
Pushed on whether the PM would be apologising for breaking the park’s rules, the spokesman said: “As I say, I’m not going to comment on the video which you’ve seen.”
A spokeswoman for The Royal Parks said: “Dogs are welcome in all the Royal Parks, although there are some places where they are not allowed or should be kept on a lead.”
The incident comes after the PM was fined by police for not wearing a seatbelt.
Lancashire Police issued the notice after the PM appeared without a belt in a clip on Instagram as he promoted his levelling-up funding in Lancashire.
