As one of the largest swells of 2023 slammed San Diego County beaches over New Year’s weekend with waves ranging from 6 to 18 feet, spectators lined up at various spots in La Jolla to get a view of the raging sea.

Some of the biggest waves hit the seawall at the Children’s Pool, leading to its temporary closure.
