Following the reveal of the future plans for the DC Universe, co-CEO of DC Studios Peter Safran has shed some light on what the future holds for Aquaman star Jason Momoa.
During an interview following the announcement of the overarching DCU, Safran said that despite the fact that he and James Gunn are looking to reset everything, there’s no reason former actors couldn’t appear.
“There’s no reasons why all the people you mentioned, couldn’t be part of the DCU, we just haven’t decided what the story is that we want to tell that incorporates Shazam or Aquaman,” said Safran (via Deadline).
Momoa, who currently plays Aquaman and is set to reprise his role in the sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, recently teased having a great meeting with Gunn and Safran, saying that he got some “really good news” out of it. As far as his future goes, Safran also noted that “Jason always saw Aquaman as a trilogy,” although it’s unknown exactly what the future holds for the film series.
When it comes to the idea of Momoa playing Lobo, another rumor that has been floating about, Gunn didn’t react too much to the news, but did say that they won’t have the same actor “playing two different roles,” something that Momoa said he’d be able to do just a week ago.
The comments from Safran come after a report from The Hollywood Reporter, which notes that Momoa could potentially wrap up playing the underwater hero after he stars as Aquaman in the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which releases on December 25, 2023. After that, Momoa could transition to the character of Lobo, a foul-mouthed alien that works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter.
