Peninsula Hotels has made its long-awaited debut in London with the opening of its property in Belgravia.
The Hong Kong-based luxury hotel firm opened the doors of the Peninsula London on Tuesday (12 September) – the new-build property is located between Hyde Park Corner and Wellington Arch in the centre of the UK capital.
The London property becomes Peninsula’s third European hotel after first making its debut in Paris nine years ago and also opening the Peninsula Istanbul earlier this year. Peninsula was the only hotel brand to make it on to BTN Europe’s 2023 Hotlist due to these high-profile openings.
The Peninsula London offers 190 rooms and suites, which the company claims have the largest average room size in the capital. The hotel’s rooms start at 50 square metres in size.
The property will feature six restaurants, bars and lounges including its signature rooftop restaurant Brooklands, from chef director Claude Bosi, which is due to open in early October.
Sonja Vodusek, managing director of the Peninsula London, said: “It’s a proud moment for me and my team, to open the doors of The Peninsula London to our first guests.
“Peninsula searched for the perfect location in London for over three decades, and now after much craft, care and consideration, and through the dedication of our people we hope our hotel will stand out – not only in London but globally for generations to come.”
Other areas of the hotel are due to open in the coming months with its meeting spaces set to be unveiled in November. The largest room will be the St George Ballroom, which will have capacity of 450 guests for a banquet. There will also be a range of configurable conference rooms and a small private cinema for up to 15 guests.
September is shaping up as a big month for major hotel openings in London with another Asia-based luxury brand Raffles set to open its first hotel in the city – Raffles London at The OWO – on 29 September.
