(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 27 – ECB executive board member Fabio
Panetta will take up his new post as Bank of Italy governor on
November 1, the cabinet said Tuesday.
The cabinet, at the proposal of Premier Giorgia Meloni, having
regard to the unanimous opinion expressed by the Higher Council
of the Bank of Italy, has “resolved to appoint Dr Fabio Panetta
as Governor of the Institute, starting from 1 November 2023,
following the natural end of Governor Ignazio Visco’s term of
office, scheduled for 31 October next,” announced Palazzo Chigi
sources.
Visco had been BoI chief since November 1, 2011, when Mario
Draghi resigned to become ECB head. (ANSA).
