Global law firm Squire Patton Boggs will open its 16th European location with the launch of an office in Amsterdam, continuing a corporate and private equity expansion strategy that has seen the firm recently open an office in Dublin and add practitioners in Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, and Paris.

Jeroen Sombezki, formerly a Corporate partner at the Dutch firm Van Doorne, will serve as managing partner of the office, working alongside Selma Baouch, who will join from Taylor Wessing, where she serves as Corporate and M&A partner with focus on investment driven transactions. They will be joined by Legal Director Nina de Kwaasteniet and senior associate Vivan IJzerman, both from Van Doorne.

Mark Ruehlmann, Chair and Global CEO of Squire Patton Boggs said, “We have long had interest in building upon our existing ties in the Netherlands and the addition of this dynamic team gives us a natural entry point into one of Europe’s fastest growing economies.”

Steve Mahon, Global Managing Partner – Clients and Strategy commented, “The Netherlands is a well-established commercial market with a rich culture that has continued to flourish post-Brexit. Our Amsterdam office will open new opportunities for us to support our clients who are already doing business and planning investments across several key areas of our global practice, including private equity, tech, life sciences and industrials.”

“We have made strong progress in expanding our pan-European private equity practice,” said EMEA Managing Partner Jonathan Jones. “The Netherlands’ growing private equity scene and continued emergence as a foreign direct investment hub for global corporates and investors made this a logical step in our strategy.”

Jones continued, “Jeroen and Selma are international practitioners who are well-connected into the Dutch market. We are delighted to welcome them to the global team.”

Commenting on their move to the firm, Mr. Sombezki and Ms. Baouch said, “An established international presence is increasingly becoming a prerequisite in order to complete many M&A and private equity transactions. Opening in a new market for a firm with Squire’s reach and integrated approach presents an exciting opportunity for us.”

Mr. Sombezki advises businesses, founders, and investors on mergers & acquisitions, private equity transactions, private placements and growth financing, joint ventures and other strategic collaborations, as well as corporate governance and equity capital markets matters. He focuses on international mid-market transactional matters, most notably in the Technology, Media & Telecom and Energy & Infrastructure sectors.

Ms. Baouch has extensive experience in Corporate/M&A transactions especially in the field of private equity transactions, with focus on healthtech, technology and life science sectors. She advises multinational enterprises on national and international mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, shareholder agreements, international financial transactions, and general corporate law issues. She currently serves as Vice President of the European American Chamber of Commerce (Netherlands).

The office is expected to open this Fall.

Squire Patton Boggs was named “Law Firm of the Year – Transactions” at the 2022 Private Equity Awards hosted by Unquote, one of Europe’s leading providers of private equity and venture capital news and analysis.
