KUTZTOWN, Pa. — National Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Day is celebrated on March 15 and commemorates the hard work of all the dedicated team members around the country; celebrating their clients and the economic impact on the small business community. There are nearly 1,000 SBDCs nationwide that collectively serve America’s veterans, women-owned businesses, underserved communities, and young entrepreneurs. SBDCs also promote technology development, exports, and rural development. In 2020-2021, Nationwide SBDCs helped generate 85,094 jobs, $10.1 billion in sales growth, $7.7 billion in capital investments, and helped start 14,487 new businesses – proving that SBDCs are leaders in job creation and economic growth.
The Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers (PASBDC) network has made a significant impact in providing problem-solving assistance to help nascent entrepreneurs, and small businesses access capital, develop and exchange new technologies, and improve business planning and strategies. In Pennsylvania specifically, from Oct. 2021 to Sept. 2022 the PASBDC network helped 719 new businesses start, which in turn supported 68,675 jobs, and provided consultation to 13,718 clients yielding a capital formation grand total of over $312 million.
PASBDC State Director Dr. Ernie Post commented the following: “As we celebrate national SBDC Day I want to thank our more than 13,000 small business clients that are actively engaged with one of our 15 regional centers for no-cost business assistance. Our Pennsylvania SBDC clients represent our Commonwealth’s biggest job creators, and our clients come from various sectors with service, retail, and manufacturing representing the top three sectors. More than half of our clients are woman-owned businesses and more than 20% of our clients represent underrepresented entrepreneurs who are seeking growth services. Our more than 150 professional team members across Pennsylvania work tirelessly to help their clients start, grow and improve their businesses every day. I am thankful for the dedicated PASBDC team members who bring their knowledge, experience, and passion to help small business owners succeed.”
