Next weekend, small businesses in West Norfolk will be celebrated – and urged to apply for funding to boost our town centres.
Residents are being encouraged to play a role in Small Business Saturday on December 2. This is a campaign which highlights these companies’ successes and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’.
West Norfolk Council has also urged businesses in Downham, Hunstanton and Lynn to suggest new initiatives which generate footfall and increase activity in the towns.
A £6,000 fund is available from the Government, Norfolk County Council and the borough council, offering grants of up to £1,000 to organisations and groups.
Cllr Alistair Beales, the borough council’s cabinet member for business, said: “Local businesses play an important role in our communities, supporting their customers and regularly going above and beyond.

“Small business Saturday is a great opportunity to show those businesses how much we appreciate them. Additionally, this year local businesses are being reminded that the deadline is looming to apply for funding to encourage more people into our three West Norfolk towns.
“We’ve worked with county council partners to create the Love Your Town fund to give local groups and businesses the chance to put forward their creative ideas to enhance our towns.
“I’m looking forward to hearing people’s ideas about how we can make our towns even better for our residents and visitors and help boost West Norfolk’s economy.”
Businesses and community groups have until Friday, December 8 to submit their expressions of interest.
Applications can be submitted by any local group or business, but any activity must be a brand-new idea and should support multiple areas or services – as well as having a link to creating interest or increasing footfall in town centres.
