Biostimulant specialist Orion FT has appointed agronomist Mike Stoker as its new business development agronomist.

Stoker’s role includes offering advice to farmers seeking alternatives to strengthen crops and improve soil health.

Stoker brings more than 20 years’ experience to his new role, of which 18 were spent with fertiliser specialist Yara.

He also has significant experience in top fruit and horticulture, Orion FT said, and is based in the southeast of England.

“Joining Orion FT as business development agronomist is an opportunity I had to take,” Stocker said.

“Biologicals are fast becoming the answer to more sustainable farming methods and Orion has abundant trial data to show how important silicon is to strengthening crops.”

“Whilst working with growers locally, I also intend to cover the length and breadth of the UK as well as looking for international opportunities to offer advice on how silicon and other biostimulants in our portfolio can help strengthen and increase the yield of everything from wheat to strawberries.

“Orion’s products have harnessed, and can make plant available, the second most abundant element on the planet, so explaining its benefits to farmers and growers is too good an opportunity to miss.”

Orion FT focuses on silicon-based biostimulant technology and plant nutrient solutions.

“We are dedicated to broadening our understanding of the benefits that silicon offers to individual plant species and the impact it has when applied at different timings,” the company said.

“In collaboration with leading universities around the world, we utilise the latest scientific research to develop new, innovative, safe and effective products.

“In doing so, we are able to ensure that our products remain at the forefront of safe and sustainable global food production.”
