Opinion | Why Did the Pentagon Pick a Fight on Abortion?

[ad_1]

I would suggest that the Pentagon’s policy of funding travel for abortion services for active-duty members is misguided, rather than Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s stand against it (“Sen. Tuberville’s Misguided Stand,” Review & Outlook, Nov. 3). It would be instructive to know who in the Defense Department approved this policy and why—or, rather, if the Pentagon was directed to do so from the White House.

I am sure Pentagon leadership realized this change would be controversial, and I doubt it was made due to a groundswell of complaints from service members or potential recruits. More likely the policy was instituted to make a statement about which side of the controversial issue the Defense Department stood on.
