Opinion: Kai Havertz one of Chelsea owners best bit of business so far – Talk Chelsea

His song was great, sure, and he scored that unforgettable goal in the UCL final that will rightly stay in Chelsea’s history as one of the most important goals ever, and I will always fondly remember him for that.

But let’s be honest, Kai Havertz has never been ‘the best on earth’ as his song went.

When we sold him to Arsenal for £65m I was shocked. Not shocked that one of our players was joining a London rival or that we were selling him, but shocked that any club would see fit to pay that price for him. I thought it was a superb deal for us and one of the best things that our new ownership have done since they arrived, without a doubt.

Havertz was never a bad player for us, sure. But he certainly did nothing to show that he was a £65m player that Arsenal should be battling to bring in.

I’ve been finding it entertaining watching Arsenal fans this season all saying the same things that we had all grown used to saying about Havertz and once again not knowing his best position. Maybe, just maybe, he isn’t that good?

I never rated him highly at Chelsea I must be honest, even though I could also appreciate the good games he did have and the good things he did do. But I never saw him as indispensable or super important, and I was pleased when we sold him.

Arsenal fans have been tying themselves in knots trying to justify the signing and claim that he just isn’t playing in his best position or needs time to settle or what ever other nonsense I’ve heard spouted around. He’s been in the Premier League more than long enough now to have ‘settled’. The reality is, he’s just not ever going to be a world beater I am afraid.

As I say, certainly not a bad player and is capable of brilliance, as we saw in a Chelsea shirt on occasions. But he’s just too inconsistent and doesn’t bring enough.

I’m writing this because I’m seeing Arsenal fans now turning on him and really, it was always going to come.

I feel for Havertz because he seems to be a really nice person, and I love the fact that he loves animals so much, because that mirrors me. You wont see me bantering Arsenal fans on socials or digging at Havertz other than just speaking what I believe is honest truths. But I will also have a little smile at the fact that I never understood why Arsenal spent £65m for Havertz and continue to celebrate this bit of business from us!

Oh and by the way, Cole Palmer for half the price just makes this bit of business even more enjoyable!
