Britain’s most decorated female Olympian, Dame Katherine Grainger, captivated the audience at the Southern Sporting Clubs’ lunch in Cambridge.

The London 2012 Olympic gold medal-winning rower spoke at The Graduate Hotel on Friday (November 24) at the business lunch, organised by another sporting great – former World Cup winning rugby player Kyran Bracken.

“It was a very enjoyable event with Dame Katherine Grainger reliving her greatest sporting achievement of winning Olympic gold in London 2012 after so many silvers previously. You could hear a pin drop as she spoke so eloquently,” Kyran told the Cambridge Independent.

He has taken over the role of organising the lunches from another former England rugby union player, David Duckham.

“I have very big boots to fill,” noted Kyran.

With the 20-year anniversary of winning the World Cup upon us, Kyran has invited his former teammate and ex-British Lions star Phil Vickery to speak at the next event on March 22, 2024. Inquiries can be sent to kyran@southernsporting clubs.co.uk.
