Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has identified technical and vocational education as necessary ingredients in national development.

Okowa, while at Uvwie local government area of the state, said technical education is imperative for all round development.

He said it was in realisation of the importance of technical education that his administration decided to embark on construction of new model technical colleges in local government areas where none existed.

According to him, his administration has provided opportunities for children in the state to access quality education, saying this was why the state government upgraded three institutions to universities.

“We know the importance of technical education and with combined process of ensuring that all subjects taught in secondary schools are taught along with technical subjects, we are truly preparing our children for greater future.

“I believe that when children come into this school along with their teachers, they will have the best learning environment, and therefore, in that comfort, they can truly learn and prepare themselves for the future.

“The school is not only about the ambience and structure, it is about creating opportunity for our children to be able to attend to their education in a conducive environment,” he said.

The Commissioner for Technical Education, Mrs. Shola Ogbemi-Daibo said the college was geared towards the development of technical skills of middle level manpower in the state.

Ogbemi-Daibo added that the essence was to make youths in the state employable in the competitive business environment.

Prompted by this zeal, the commissioner said the state government considered it necessary to establish additional 19 technical colleges to ensure that each council had one.

She stated that the modern infrastructures in the college are fully equipped with state-of- the- art machines and tools that will facilitate learning and skills acquisition.

Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman of Uvwie local government council, Ramson Onoyake said the massive investment in education by the Okowa administration was a clear attestation of its commitment to providing an enabling environment for learning.

Uvwie monarch, Dr. Emmanuel Sideso Abe expressed appreciation to the governor for making a difference in the lives of the people through empowerment programmes and infrastructural development.
