Team Acme from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, emerged winner of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) 2023 CGMA Business Leadership Challenge, with 88.3 per cent among the top Nigerian universities, yesterday, in Lagos.
The squad secured victory after its presentation, judged by CIMA assessors and some of the country’s top business leaders.
Sponsored by Stanbic IBTC, the programme is a regional competition for business and accounting students, organised by AICPA and CIMA, together as Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.
Team KFK from Nile University and that of University of Lagos were second and first runners-up, with 75.4 per cent and 87 per cent, and getting cash prizes of N400,000 and N600,000.
CIMA assessors shortlisted the teams from a pool of 30, representing seven universities that submitted entries for the contest.
The ACME team, consisting of Omodara Faith, Ajongolo Oluwafemi and Oluwasanmu Giwa Michael, secured a one-year subscription each to the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme, along with a cash prize of N1 million.
Country Director of CIMA Nigeria, Ijeoma Anadozie, while lauding the participants, noted that today’s business world was all about performance and value creation.
She told the students: “We are here to equip you with the skills and competencies you need to stay at the top of your game in an ever-changing disruptive world, driving prosperity and opportunity for those who count on us.”
Stanbic IBTC representative, Biodun Olorunishola, emphasised sustainability as a crucial journey.
Baze, Covenant and Top Faith varsities got consolation prizes.
