OAG has released its Megahubs 2023 data, which ranks the top 50 most internationally connected airports, with London Heathrow back to its global top spot.

world’s number one internationally connected airport after being knocked down to 22nd position last year.
British Airways continued
to reign as Heathrow’s dominant airline, owning a 50 per cent share of the flights.
John F. Kennedy International Airport and Amsterdam Schiphol took the second and third spots respectively in the Global Megahub Top 50.
OAG’s Megahubs 2023 rankings are generated
by comparing the number of scheduled connections to and from
international flights with the number of destinations served from the
airport.
This year “global megahubs” were evenly spread across the regions with six of the top 20 in EMEA, six in North America and seven in Asia Pacific.
European hubs which made the top 20 in the Global Megahub top 50 table were: London Heathrow (1), Amsterdam Schiphol (3), Frankfurt (6), Istanbul (7) and Paris CDG (9).
Frankfurt International Airport climbed up 30 places from 2022, finishing number six in the world, while Istanbul Airport joined the top 10 at number seven (previously ranked 17 in 2019). Turkish Airlines is the dominant airline at Istanbul, owning a 79 per cent share of the flights.
Turkey had two airports featuring in the top 10 for European Megahubs (see table).
In other regions, John F. Kennedy International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport ranked second and tenth in the world, respectively.
Kuala Lumpur International Airport is the most connected airport in Asia Pacific, while Dubai International Airport stayed at top spot in the Middle East and Africa.
John Grant, chief analyst at OAG said: “OAG Megahubs demonstrates the enduring vitality of international connectivity. From London Heathrow’s resurgence to the impressive ascent of Asian hubs like Kuala Lumpur, these findings underscore the resilience and adaptability of airports worldwide.”
