Kota Kinabalu: The mandate has been given to the MPC (Malaysian Productivity Corp) to review business registration rules to facilitate doing business in Sabah and Sarawak.
“This initiative is implemented to facilitate and improve the efficiency of doing business in Sabah and Sarawak through mapping, reviewing and evaluating all existing business registration regulations in Sabah,” said Sabah MPC Director Edward Binty.
Edward also said the role of the Economic Planning Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department had been taken over by the Ministry of Economy through the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.
Deputy Director General (Service Sector) cum Coordinator of the Sabah Good Regulatory Practise Sabah Secretariat and Deputy Head of the Sabah Maju Jaya Secretariat, Ramlee Kariah said the implementation of this initiative is one of initiatives under Good Regulatory Practice (GRP) and in line with Sabah Maju Jaya
Development Plan (SMJ) initiatives, namely Effectiveness and Efficiency of Service Delivery; Excellence in Governance with Integrity; and the Digital Government at the same time boost the image of Sabah as a Friendly Investor State” and “Ease and speed in doing business” which is the narrative highlighted by the Sabah State Government administration in boosting economic activities.
“In efforts to strengthen business regulatory governance to increase the competitiveness of enterprises in Sabah, clear and effective implementation of regulations across various government ministries and agencies in the state is required,” he said.
“Through the business licensing regulatory mapping assessment in Sabah, business licensing regulatory issues and burdens can be overcome through the involvement of various business licensing stakeholders.
“Next, an innovative registration mechanism to facilitate the registration of the business start-up ecosystem could be the key to the next phase of improvement.
Mapping the Rules for Starting a Business in Sabah (SAB) is based on the World Bank’s SAB framework, serving as an input to increase the competitiveness of SAB in Sabah,” he added.
He said the implementation of this initiative is expected to create an environment that facilitates business and contribute to the expected savings in compliance costs of 25 per cent by 2025.
The process of registering for business licences was completed during the first workshop and a second being organised to share the results.
Its goals also include a discussion of problems or constraints relating to Sabah’s regulations governing business registration rules as well as recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of Sabah’s business registration procedures.
