Shah Mohammad Mehrabi, Central Bank supreme council member and board member of the Afghan Trust Fund in Switzerland, said the new afghani banknotes printed by a French company will arrived in Afghanistan in May 2023.

In a video message, Mehrabi told TOLOnews that the rest of the banknotes will also be delivered to Afghanistan after May.

“The French printing company has committed to delivering the first batch of Afghani banknotes in May 2023 while the remaining notes are to be delivered in the last quarter of the same year,” he said.

Mehrabi said that the contracted printing company has fulfilled its obligation to deliver Afghani banknotes of various denominations.

The Union of Money Exchangers of Sarai Shahzada Market said the amount of worn-out Afghani banknotes of 500 and 1,000 denominations has also increased in the market, which also created challenges for the money exchangers.

“Unfortunately, the Afghani banknotes have recently been worn out in large mumbers. Not only in Sarai Shahzada but in all of the markets, the money exchangers are complaining about it,” said Abdul Rahman Zirak, a spokesman for the union.

The residents of Kabul expressed concerns over the worn-out banknotes in the markets, saying that the Banks do not provide them with new banknotes.

“The new banknotes should be provided for the people. It should not remain in the bank,” said Ghulam Majidin, a resident of Kabul.

“The money has been worn out. Many people don’t want to take it,” said Muqeem, resident of Kabul.

Afghanistan has signed a contract for printing Afghani banknotes with Polish company PWPW and French company Oberthur Fiduciaire.
