NCC is one of Denmark’s leading contractors for water infrastructure and in recent years has partnered with HOFOR on the refurbishment and new construction of water treatment plants in Søndersø and Gevninge. The partnership is now continuing since NCC has been commissioned as main contractor for the refurbishment and new construction of Denmark’s largest water treatment plant, Regnemark. Located between Ringsted and Køge on Zealand, the facility supplies more than 14 billion liters of drinking water to the Copenhagen area each year.

“Large, complex water treatment plant projects such as Regnemark comprise a priority segment for NCC, and this project provides us the opportunity to best utilize our core expertise. A large project like this one requires a close partnership with HOFOR and we therefore see it as a great strength that we have had good cooperation in previous projects. This gives us the best conditions for a good process and a successful project,” says Kenneth Nilsson, Head of NCC Infrastructure.

The project is part of HOFOR’s large-scale water treatment plant project, which includes modernization of a total of seven regional water works to supply the Copenhagen metropolitan area with softened drinking water. The Regnemark facility was constructed in 1964 and is the next in a series of HOFOR’s water treatment plant to be replaced by a new, modern one, with a central softening facility and associated new operating and maintenance buildings.

NCC’s contract encompasses the construction and civil engineering works. Work will start in early 2024 and is scheduled to be completed in 2026.

The order of approximately SEK 600 million will be registered in the second quarter of 2023 in the NCC Infrastructure business area.
