Cashel native Jack Raeburn is a man with a dream and now that dream is becoming a reality as he has turned a local Tipperary business into a worldwide success. The local businessman is destined for the top:
“When I left Secondary School we set up the broadband company as an experiment instead of going to College. This is where I ended up!
“Originally we were a broadband company in 2013 and we diversified from that into security with a monitoring service,” he says whilst speaking about his business.
What began as a small-scale local security venture in 2019 has rapidly evolved into a widespread presence, spanning across Ireland, the UK, and most recently, South Africa.
It is a venture Jack is excited about:
“The monitoring industry as a whole is really all tied up with compliance so there are an awful lot of regulations around what you can do in a monitoring centre to monitor the security systems of various types.
“So the monitoring centre that is in Ireland essentially has to have a disaster recovery of the same standard.
“The monitoring system in Ireland for example is built to a standard that is the European standard for monitoring systems that are built after 2014. To comply with that standard you must have two facilities,” Jack says.
In addition to their expansion in South Africa, they are proud to highlight a continued commitment to Irish operations.
“With the main offices located in Cashel, Co Tipperary, the company specialize in the installation, maintenance, and monitoring of cutting-edge security systems.
The Alarm Receiving Centre is licensed by the PSA and certified by SSAIB to the highest European standard. The company believes in combining local expertise with a global perspective.
30-year-old Jack Raeburn has been a driving force behind our expansion, alongside Darragh Kennedy, a Boherlahan local who is only 33.
Speaking this week, Jack Raeburn says the monitoring business is very tied up with compliance so there is a lot of regulation around what we can actually do at the Monitoring Centre to monitor security systems of various types.
They now have expanded their business to the South African market which opens new doors for them, Jack says: “The main purpose of our monitoring centre in South Africa is to give us presence in the Southern Hemisphere.
“Initially the plan is to provide services in the South African market but then we can provide the service in any country we are licensed in.
“We can then go and look for licences in Australia, New Zealand and other countries within Africa too as it is technologically close if that makes sense.”
As it stands the entrepreneur hasn’t forgotten his roots and spends a lot of time in Cashel as well as travelling frequently to the UK and South Africa.
Currently the business is expanding and brings huge growth to the Cashel area with 24 employed in the town:
“Most are based daily in Cashel while the engineers and Sales team are remote from places like Clonmel and up the country.
“Most are in the monitoring centre in Cashel and in South Africa it is a similar number.
“The security industry is a bigger opportunity than the broadband industry because we don’t have to build any new pieces of infrastructure.
“Obviously there is a big investment needed in building a monitoring centre in the first place but once that’s in place all that is needed then is compliance and licensing to enter different markets.
“We initially got licenced in Ireland to get set up in the UK and it is the same in South Africa. It is a big opportunity for us,” he says.
They are taking it.
