A neighbour’s antics have left a woman “really down” and “ruined” her joy of sitting out in the garden.

It can be a worrying feeling when the house next door is up for sale and you wonder who the next residents will be – praying they aren’t a neighbour from hell. One woman, who wishes to remain unnamed, has been left torn with what to do after her personal training neighbour has caused a racket six days a week ever since she moved in.

The new neighbour and her builder partner began erecting a garden building as soon as they moved in to be turned into a gym. The existing neighbour branded the outhouse “imposing” and “big as it can be”. Despite its appearance she didn’t think it would cause a disturbance.

She said: “It didn’t occur to me as they were building it, that there would be an issue with noise, but it’s really getting me down.” Now, she has to put up with “shouting” and loud music playing during unsociable hours and is deprived of sitting peacefully outside.

Taking to Mums Net to speak about the dilemma and her neighbour, the individual said: “My neighbour is obviously doing very well as has lots of clients coming and going six days a week including weekends. Some she does 1-2-1 but seems that most are pairs or small groups. She has music playing which I can hear in my house when all the windows and doors are closed, it’s obviously far worse during the summer, and ruins trying to sit outside and enjoy my garden.

“On top of the music, extra traffic and people coming and going, is her shouting instructions/encouragement over the music. Weight dropping, people running around the garden and running laps of of our block.”

She added: “My husband doesn’t think there’s anything we can do or say as the noise is not during unsociable hours, and it doesn’t seem to bother him. Whereas, I actually feel like I don’t want to live here anymore.

“Am I being unreasonable? It’s really getting me down.” Over 2,000 people took a vote on Mumsnet and offered their opinions and advice. One individual said: “Usually there are rules about running a business in a residential zone. Your council could help you more. I think it sounds questionable.”
