Morrison Foerster has been named a finalist in five categories in Asian Legal Business (ALB)’s 2023 Hong Kong Law Awards.
Hong Kong-based Marcia Ellis is the global co-chair of MoFo’s Private Equity Group and focuses her practice on private equity transactions and complex mergers and acquisitions involving companies, real estate, and other assets located in Asia. This is the sixth time in a row that Marcia has been nominated for Dealmaker of the Year, an honor that she won in 2018.
Marcia was also recently named the Most Innovative Legal Practitioner in the Asia-Pacific region at the Financial Times Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers 2023 Awards, Private Equity Lawyer of the Year at Law.com International’s 2023 Asia Legal Awards, and Law360’s 2023 Private Equity Editorial Advisory Board. She is also co-chair of AmCham HK’s Women of Influence Steering Committee, advocating for women’s empowerment and advancement in the workplace.
Under the Law Firm of the Year categories, MoFo has been named a finalist in four categories, which placed us among the top law firms with the most Firm of the Year nominations. Our nominations include:
- Investment Funds Law Firm of the Year
- Regulation and Investigations Law Firm of the Year
- Tax and Trusts Law Firm of the Year
- Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Law Firm of the Year
Since 2018, our Investment Funds team led by Serena Tan, Hong Kong partner and deputy co‑chair of the firm’s Private Funds Group, has been nominated five times as “Investment Funds Law Firm of the Year.” Similarly, our Band 1 TMT team, led by partners Gordon Milner and Chuan Sun, has been shortlisted five times as “Technology, Media and Telecommunications Law Firm of the Year.” The 2023 shortlist also marks our second consecutive year the firm has been highlighted in the “Regulation and Investigations Law Firm of the Year” and “Tax and Trusts Law Firm of the Year” categories. MoFo’s Regulation and Investigations team in Hong Kong is led by Hong Kong managing partner Timothy Blakely and partner Chen Zhu, while our tax practice is headed by partner Matthew Lau.
The ALB Hong Kong Law Awards pay tribute to the outstanding performance of private practitioners and in-house teams in Hong Kong and around the region. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Hong Kong on September 15, 2023.
