WOODSFIELD — The Monroe County Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing for several events this Christmas season, including the parade on Nov. 26.
The parade will start at 5 p.m. Lineup will be at 4 p.m. on North Paul Street. The parade will travel south on Main Street and finish in front of the park and Brown Community Center. The annual Christmas parade will feature local marching bands and music performances, floats to represent many local businesses and organizations and police cars and fire trucks.
Registration to participate in the parade is free. Anyone who would like to register will need to fill out a form that can be picked up at the chamber’s office or on the chamber’s Facebook page.
The chamber encourages Monroe County residents to decorate their vehicles and participate in the parade.
The courthouse tree lighting will follow the parade.
The chamber is also collecting ornaments for the courthouse Christmas tree. Ornaments can represent a local business, organization, school or student group.
The chamber asks that each group only supplies one ornament. Businesses and groups should keep in mind that ornaments should not be glass and must be able to survive the elements.
Ornaments can be dropped off from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday or Thursday at the chamber office. The deadline to supply an ornament is Nov. 17.
The chamber is also collecting orders for “community snow angels.” The snow angels will be on wooden stakes and placed in the ground around the courthouse. Each snow angel will have a name to memorialize, celebrate or give recognition to a community member.
Angels cost $25, and checks can be made out to the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce and mailed to P.O. Box 643 Woodsfield, OH 43793.
Orders must be placed by Dec. 15, but any orders received by Nov. 20 will be displayed for the Christmas parade and courthouse tree lighting.
The chamber is also having a decorating contest for local businesses. Participants can decorate both the inside and outside of their businesses. Any business located in Monroe County and the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District can participate.
The first and second place winners will receive a plaque.
Anyone who wishes to participate can email photos of their business to monroeohiochamber@gmail.com by Dec. 8.
The Monroe County Chamber of Commerce office is located at 117 N. Main St., Woodsfield. For more information, visit the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce Facebook page, call 740-472-5499 or email monroecohiochamber@gmail.com.
