Antiques, furniture and collectibles featured at new shop

With the grand opening of MJM Vintage Market set to take place in mid-January, the owners are sharing more details about the new Ashland small business.

MJM Vintage Market, which specializes in antiques, furniture and collectibles, is getting ready to open in the former Aaron’s building on Amberwood Parkway.

Marcia Scott, with her daughter Michele Scott, said they became interested in antiquing years ago and decided it was time to not only showcase their finds, but those of other antique collectors as well.

Antique dealers will have their own booth within MJM Vintage Market to sell their goods.

The owner said moving into the former Aaron’s building was a no-brainer.

“We were driving around town looking at buildings we thought would get the best foot traffic and it was the only place that spoke to us,” the mother-daughter duo said. “We didn’t want to be close to downtown and felt the area we chose could be easily [accessed] either by foot, after a good meal at Tacos and Tequila, or by car, coming off the main highway.”

MJM Vintage Market will have ‘game changing’ paint products for furniture restoration

Along with selling antiques, the Scotts are selling Fusion Mineral Paint in MJM Vintage Market. The store will be an exclusive retailer of the paint product and other assorted products in the line within 30 miles.

“We also carry Staalmeester Brushes, which do an outstanding job applying the paint,” Marcia Scott said.

Michele Scott said said Fusion Mineral Paint products are game changers in the business of furniture restoration.

“The Fusion Mineral paint includes a full line of specialty products that complement their paint,” Marcia Scott said. “To name a few: Glaze Antiquing, Odorless Solvent, Beeswax/Hemp Finish, Stain and Finishing Oil, Gel Stain & Topcoat and Brush Soap. Also a line of Milk Paint and Metallics.”

MJM Vintage Market owners share first year and five-year plans

When asked what they hope to achieve during the first year business, the owners agree the key focuses are business growth and community.

“Growing our business and getting to know the community. Supporting other small businesses in the area,” Marcia said.

Along with supporting other small businesses in the Ashland area, MJM Vintage Market also supports local initiatives  #AddieStrong and #Love for Laila.

The duo then explained their business goals for the next five years. “We want our business to be successful over the next 5 years and we will do everything we can to assure that it is,” Marcia continued. “That means excellent customer service, filling the customer’s needs and having unique items in our inventory.”

However, the owners have no plans to expand or add locations unless it becomes necessary. They are working alongside Michele’s son, Jayden Scott, and his friend, Houston Rogers, who help with deliveries.

The grand opening of MJM Vintage Market will take place 3-5 p.m. Jan. 15, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Attendees will be able to meet the vendors, browse the booths, enjoy refreshments, and network with the Ashland Business Community.
