A murdered cryptocurrency mogul has been found stuffed down a toilet after being chopped up. The dismembered corpse of Christian Peev was found by plumbers called to clear a blocked drain.
The 41-year-old, who holds US and Bulgarian citizenship, was discovered on Saturday, in the city of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
As reported by The Mirror, investigators believe alleged killer Vesco Valchinov, chopped him up and flushed some of his body parts down the toilet.
His head and some of his bones were buried instead as they were too big to be flushed away, it’s claimed. Peev graduated from university in the US and built through crypto investments.
He was a regular visitor to high-society parties and events before he was murdered, and it is believed this is where he met his alleged killer, who worked as a bartender.
Mr Peev was reportedly murdered between August 8 and 9. Local media report that the alleged murderer killed his victim with a dumbbell and then cut up the body in the bathroom of his apartment before flushing the pieces down the toilet.
Prosecutors and the Ministry of the Interior held a joint press conference saying that Christian’s cousin filed a report on August 10, saying that he had disappeared two days earlier.
The investigators reached the scene of the crime after checking the two phones of the missing person. They said: “All contacts he had on the day he was last seen were checked. One of them was with his friend Vesco Valchinov.
“A camera was seized from the block where the suspect lives and it was established that he and Christian entered the entrance in the late afternoon of August 8”. The next day, the suspect killer went out alone.
He came home and went out again several times during the day. But Christian was not seen. Another man, named Konstantin Subotinov, allegedly helped the killer hide the dismembered corpse of the victim.
When he was detained he admitted that he helped the killer to hide the parts of the victim’s body by taking some of them with his car to Vitosha and burying them there.
He buried the head and skeleton but the more easy to flush away fresh from the body was put in the toilet. Valchinov was arrested after fleeing to a hotel in Vitosha, but his location was tracked on his phone and he was arrested on Sunday.
The wealthy socialite regularly took his friends to bars, first meeting Valchinov in a bar around five to six years ago. According to local media, Mr Peev even helped Valchinov do business with cryptocurrency.
Investigators suspect that the motive of the murder is related to money. And police are not ruling out the idea that the former bartender was jealous of his friend. The investigation is ongoing.
