Here’s a look at promotions, hirings, movers and newsmakers in the Memphis area business scene:
Ernest Strickland, president and chief executive officer of the Black Business Association of Memphis, was elected to serve on the board of directors for the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE), an Alexandria, Virginia-based association of more than 9,000 professionals who work for and with more than 1,600 chambers of commerce. ACCE supports and develops chamber professionals to lead businesses and their communities.
Freed-Hardeman University President David R. Shannon recently announced his appointment of Dave Clouse, previously vice president for community engagement, as senior vice president of FHU. He is a 1987 alumnus of FHU and is now charged with leading enrollment management, marketing and advancement as well as providing additional support for the administrative council and the president. Clouse has a master’s degree in Strategic Leadership from the University of Memphis.
Jesse Sias has been named executive director of The Farms at Bailey Station. He has 25 years of experience in senior living operations and management. Prior to joining The Farms, Sias held leadership roles at nonprofit continuing care retirement communities in Texas and Indiana. He has a bachelor’s degree in health care administration from the University of Houston and is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator.
Innovate Memphis hired Nikki Dildine as the Schools Program Manager for Commute Options. The goal of the Commute Options Schools Program initiative is to change how school communities travel, with benefits including healthier children, a cleaner environment, and cost savings for families. Under her leadership, the Commute Options team will offer events and engagement opportunities to schools with the goal of shifting from drive-alone commutes to using public transit, walking, biking and carpooling.
Fourth-generation real estate professional Ward Walthal IV recently joined Marx-Bensdorf REALTORS as an associate. He earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Mississippi.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital recently announced Sarah Currie has been named chief nursing executive and senior vice president after an extensive national search. Shewill lead the institution’s Magnet-recognized nursing program, the highest designation a hospital can receive related to nursing. She’ll also oversee the institution’s Nurse Residency Program, an accredited Practice Transition Program that allows new nursing graduates to join the program before they are licensed and learn about the different patient care areas before deciding upon a specialty. Currie was previously with Children’s Wisconsin in Milwaukee, a pediatric acute care hospital she served since 2019 as executive director of perinatal and neonatal service line, clinical nutrition and hospital staffing systems. She worked at Children’s Wisconsin for 21 years.

For the third consecutive year, the Baker Donelson law firm has been named to Bloomberg Law‘s annual Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Framework listing. The firm is one of 55 U.S.-based law firms recognized for its level of disclosure of diversity-related metrics and distinguished performance against six core pillars: demographics, leadership and talent pipeline, recruitment and retention, business innovation and strategy, marketing, and diversity and inclusion in the community. Firm performance was assessed across more than 85 metrics, each associated with one of the framework’s six core pillars.
On Aug. 3, the attorneys at Chatham Gilder Howell Pittman gathered as the firm dedicated its newly expanded offices and celebrated the career of Randy Garner. The city of Hernando also issued a proclamation designating this date as “Randy Garner Day.” A Hernando attorney for more than 55 years, Garner began his practice in 1967 joining the firm initially founded by his father, Boyce Lee Garner. With its inception dating back to 1942, Garner & Garner was the longest continuously running DeSoto County law firm in history before the company merged with Chatham Gilder Howell Pittman in 2021. Garner received his law degree from the University of Mississippi School.
