Here’s a look at promotions, hirings, movers and newsmakers in the Memphis area business scene:

Mahaffey Event & Tent Rentals, a party and full-line rental company specializing in creating innovative and memorable event spaces, announced it has acquired the assets of Holliday Events, another leading Memphis-based event rental company. This purchase will enable Mahaffey to double its specialty inventory to serve customers in Memphis and throughout the Mid-South. Mahaffey Event & Tent Rentals is at 4985 Outland Center Drive.

Obsidian Public Relations recently promoted two of its employees and hired another.

  • Former intern Haley Hale has been promoted to account assistant for the Memphis firm. Since joining the team in 2022, she has honed her experience in writing, strategic planning and social media. Also, Hale recently earned her master’s degree in journalism and strategic media from the University of Memphis.
  • Gracie Lee was promoted to senior account manager. She has been with Obsidian Public Relations since 2016. In her new role, Lee manages and oversees several client accounts in a variety of industries.
  • Victoria Hall, a recent transplant from Virginia, has been hired as an account executive. Previously, she worked as a marketing and public relations manager for Newport News-Williamsburg Airport.

NOTEWORTHY

The Delta Regional Authority (DRA) awarded $11.7 million in investments to 28 projects in states including Tennessee through the Delta Workforce Grant Program. The program makes targeted investments in initiatives and programs that support workforce employment and training needs in DRA’s region and helps create pathways to high-quality careers that allow residents to thrive and remain in their communities. DRA made available grants ranging from $50,000-$450,000. In Tennessee, the awardees are: Agricenter International, $450,000 to expand AgTech career pathways for new entrants and dislocated and incumbent workers through its GradTech program; ProGeny Startups, in collaboration with the GradUS Project, has been awarded nearly $443,000 to implement Project E.A.T. – Food as an Economic Mobility Tool 2.0., to serve dislocated and unemployed workers, with an emphasis on serving domestic violence victims in Shelby, Gibson and Madison counties; Memphis Chamber Foundation has been awarded over $447,000 as part of a collaborative effort to build a sustainable talent pipeline of STEM-focused, job-ready individuals to fill the increasing demand for advanced manufacturing jobs in the Memphis region.
