Sellards said he has worked around the construction arena his entire life and moved to a career in home inspection several years ago so he could set his own schedule, thus enabling him to coach his sons’ baseball and basketball teams.
He shared some information about his business, and why the field is so important to homeowners.
WHY DO POTENTIAL HOMEOWNERS NEED A HOME INSPECTION? – A home inspection protects the buyer. Buying a home is contingent on the home buyer being comfortable with my inspection report. The buyer can accept the home as is, ask for repairs, or simply walk away and look for another home. The best time to do this is before you make an offer, so that you can save yourself the time in going further should you find serious problems.
TELL US ABOUT THE COMPANY AND THE SERVICES YOU OFFER – Home Inspections Unlimited offers state licensed home inspections, radon testing and winterizing of homes.
Radon is an odorless, invisible and radioactive gas naturally released from rocks, soil and water. It can get into your house through small cracks, and the buildup over time can be extremely dangerous to your family’s health. EPA statistics say 1 in 15 homes might contain radon.
Winterizing homes is relative to those not being occupied in the winter, and I have many options available to customers seeking that service.
When conducting home inspections for a potential buyer, I look for the physical condition of a house. This would include the building’s structure, systems, and physical components, such as the roof, plumbing, electrical, heating/cooling systems, floor surfaces, paint, windows, doors, and foundation. Another key area to examine is the land around the house for issues concerning drainage, retaining walls, and plants affecting the house. The interior is just as important as I look for leaning walls, stained ceilings that could lead to water issues, and ample insulation. Kitchens are a key area for checking to make sure range hoods are vented to the outside, there are ground-fault receptacles where needed and those are equally vital to the bathrooms as well. There are several other items on my checklist, and I am happy to go over each one when contacting me for a home inspection. Customers are welcome to accompany me during the inspection, so they can ask questions plus get a feel for what issues are serious problems and the ones relatively minor to correct. Additionally, this enables you to better understand the final report you receive from me. With full knowledge of any concerns the home may have before purchasing; the buyer can have confidence, peace of mind and not end up with “buyers regret.” My job is to see you through that process.
WHAT DO YOU THINK SETS YOU ASIDE FROM OTHER HOME INSPECTORS? – I would definitely say my over 20 years as a home inspector in this area. With each home I inspect, I do so as if I am purchasing it for my own family. Too, by inspecting in this area for so many years, I know the local neighborhoods, as I have most likely reviewed a home close by before, or maybe even the same property. My service area is normally a three-hour radius from my home. The counties included would be Tuscarawas, Guernsey, Stark, Carroll and Wayne.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY FOR PEOPLE TO CONTACT YOU? – Please call or text me at 330-243-2718 or email homeinspectionsunl@gmail.com.
WHAT WOULD SURPRISE PEOPLE ABOUT YOU? – I grew up racing professional motocross and traveled all over the country. It was a wonderful experience and one I look back on fondly. This gave me the opportunity to meet friends along the way that I would not have encountered otherwise.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT? – I take my profession very seriously, and I will be totally upfront with you on the inspection and in answering your questions. As a buyer you want someone thorough, and that is where my 20 years of home inspections becomes vital. A home is one of the largest investments you will make in your life, and I am here to assist you in this critical step for you and your family. I want to provide you with peace of mind and a home that meets all your dreams and expectations.
