MONROE COUNTY — The Monroe County Business Alliance has partnered with the Greater Ann Arbor Region in the Small Business Support Hub Program. The MCBA is expected to receive $511,000 over three years to support Monroe County businesses.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently announced recipients of grant funds from the state program.
“We look forward to continuing and implementing several new programs to serve the entrepreneurial community,” said TC Clements, incoming chief executive officer of MCBA. “There will be special emphasis on our minority-owned businesses as we strengthen and grow our entire Monroe business community.”
“The Small Business Support Hub Program received approval by the Michigan Strategic Fund in June after the $75 million Small Business Smart Zones and Business Accelerators initiative passed by the Michigan legislature in February. The program is funded by a one-time appropriation using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars to create and operate programs to support small businesses disproportionately impacted by COVID-19,” the Monroe County Business Alliance said in a news release.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer approved the funding.
“Small businesses are the backbone of Michigan’s economy, and this investment to support their growth from President Biden’s American Rescue Plan will build on Michigan’s economic momentum,” Governor Whitmer said.
The Greater Ann Arbor Region is expected to receive $3,426,316 in funding to support the program. The MCBA is expected to receive $511,000 to run a wide variety of programs over the next three years.

The goals of the Small Business Support Hub Program are to: support small businesses disproportionately impacted by COVID-19; cultivate a more inclusive, accessible and integrated technology and small business entrepreneurial ecosystem; increase the number of businesses served through new programming, technical assistance and support services; increase awareness of Michigan’s small business ecosystem; expand the geographic reach of network partners into underserved communities and rural areas; and raise the national profile of Michigan’s small business ecosystem.
