(ANSA) – ROME, SEP 15 – President Sergio Mattarella on Friday
bemoaned the low salaries that many Italian workers take home,
linking the issue to the high number of young Italians who
emigrate to seek better prospects.
“Before any other factor, what drives progress is the ‘social
capital’ that a country has,” he told the Confindustria
assembly.
“We cannot impoverish this capital.
“This responsibility is also a challenge to the business world –
too many young people seek work abroad, due to the poverty of
the wages offered to them”. (ANSA).
