Parametric insurtech Descartes Underwriting, has appointed Marlène Luce as Head of Strategy & New Business.

marlene-luce-descartes-underwritingLuce is to lead Strategy & New Business, to identify and launch new growth drivers while maintaining Descartes’ data-driven, cartesian philosophy: leverage strong tech and modelling skills to build solutions in areas where data and algorithms can be used.

Descartes established this department as a response to the rapidly evolving risk landscape and its strong growth ambitions, which must be sustained with diversification, the insurtech noted.

Marlène and Descartes’ strategy team have already helped the company achieve geographic diversification through international expansion, launching 13 international hubs in nine countries.

Now, and looking into the future, Descartes would like to focus on identifying growth drivers that will further support the company’s product diversification.

This includes developing and deploying new parametric products in the emerging risk space, for example, via a cyber offering for corporates, including manufacturers and industrials, in the coming months.

To achieve this, the Strategy & New Business department was created internally, and in the coming months Descartes will be hiring additional people to join it.

Marie-Anne Faidy, who previously acted as Business Strategy Lead, is to replace Luce as Chief of Staff.

Commenting on her appointment, Luce said: “Over the last three years, I have contributed towards Descartes’ international expansion and the French Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority (ACPR) process in obtaining approval for the establishment of Descartes Insurance; therefore, I am very excited to step into this new role and help Descartes achieve more milestones.”
