A man has died in hospital after a shooting in a Brampton parking lot on Thursday evening, Peel police say.

Police were called to the area of Bramsteele Road and Rutherford Road South at about 7:11 p.m. Investigators say the shooting happened outside of a business.

Officers arrived to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds, said Const. Heather Cannon, spokesperson for Peel Regional Police.

The man was taken a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries and died shortly afterwards. Peel paramedics said the man is believed to have been in his mid-30s. His identity has not been released.

Police said no one else was injured.

No suspect information has been released.

Police said their homicide bureau was being briefed on Thursday night and is expected to take over the investigation.

Officers were canvassing the area for more information after the shooting, Cannon said. The area has been secured.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious is being urged to call Peel police or CrimeStoppers.
