A planned 30-hour water outage that was scheduled to hit the City of Tshwane has been cancelled by Rand Water.

The shutdown was initially scheduled for Tuesday, 15 August, from 05h00 until Wednesday, 16 August, at 11h00, with Rand Water warning that it would have taken up to two weeks for the system to stabilise.

Had the planned shutdown gone ahead, Rand Water’s team would have repaired leaks at the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant and replaced defective valves at Palmiet Booster Station.

According to the city, repairs will still continue, but without disrupting services. Other work that requires a reduction in load will be postponed to a later date, it said.

“The repair of the leaks will still be executed in-situ without reducing the load. The other works that require load reduction will be planned at a later stage when the consumption is at reduced levels,” the City of Tshwane said.

The interruption would have affected the water supply at the Klipriviersberg, Klipfontein, Brakfontein and Hartebeesthoek reservoirs, which supply some of Tshwane’s reservoirs.

This marks the second cancellation of the maintenance outage, as the interruption was initially scheduled for Sunday, 30 July, which was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
