The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and Igbo for Progressive and United Nationhood (IPAN) have reached an understanding to address persistent clashes between farmers and cattle herders in various parts of Nigeria.

Speaking while welcoming a delegation of IPAN led by its National President, Rapuluchukwu Onuzulike, to his office, in Awka, Anambra State, the Deputy National Director of MACBAN, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, appreciated the concern of IPAN in addressing the faceoff between farmers and herders, regretting the attendant reported destruction of crops and attendant reprisal cattle rustlings.

He regretted the indifferent attitude of some herders, pledging decisive actions to address the issue, given the collaboration with IPAN to find a lasting solution to the challenges posed by farmers-herders conflicts in Anambra State in particular.

Siddiki appealed to Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, to revive the Cattle Menace Committee.

In his remarks, Onuzulike highlighted the detrimental impact of the careless destruction of crops on yearly yields, wondering how the international community would support Nigeria to host major events, such as world-class international business seminars, major sports and entertainment events, when it cannot address common internal issues like the persistent farmer-herder clashes.
