John Kirwan, executive director of Pennington Biomedical Research Center, has been selected to serve on the Committee on Reducing Diet-Related Chronic Disease.
The committee was set up by the Texas A&M Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs’ Center on Global Food and Agriculture.
The committee considers food environments that support human health and the complexity of the diet-disease relationship, appreciating the biological variability among individuals.

Robert W. “Bob” Barton and Xavier Cole have been selected as a member of the Committee of 100 for Economic Development.
Barton is managing partner of Taylor Porter Brooks & Phillips and is a member of the firm’s executive committee. His practice includes representation of local and national businesses in matters involving commercial litigation and transactions, regulatory and compliance matters.
Cole was named president of Loyola University New Orleans earlier this year.
He earned a bachelor’s in history from the University of Mississippi, a master’s in history from Miami University (Ohio) and a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania.

Wendi Palermo was recently inducted into the Nursing Foundation Hall of Fame at the annual Louisiana Nurses Foundation Nightingale Awards ceremony.
Palermo, chief education and training officer for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, was honored for her dedication to the field of nursing education and her commitment to advancing health care in Louisiana.

Sven Davisson has been appointed to the board of the Association of Independent Research Institutes.
Davisson, associate director of administration for the Louisiana Cancer Research Center, will serve as treasurer of the organization during his two-year term. He has served the association in various roles since 2012.
He has held executive roles in the LCRC since 2015.

Amy Welch, chief lending officer for La Capitol Federal Credit Union, has attained the Credit Union Business Lending Professional Designation after completing the Credit Union National Association’s Business Lending Certification School.
This designation reflects three years of coursework, the completion of in-course assessments and passing a final exam.
Welch has been with La Cap for nearly 12 years and has served as vice president of indirect lending and collections.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.

The LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business has announced its 2023 Hall of Distinction inductees — Kip Knight and Joaneane Smith.
In addition, this year’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award recipient is Jacques Bourque. The college will honor Knight, Smith and Bourque at a banquet on Nov. 9 in the Business Education Complex.
Knight is the operating partner at Thomvest Ventures, a $500 million venture capital fund based in the San Francisco Bay area. In addition, he serves as a board member for Netbase Quid, a leading consumer analytics company. He has held senior executive roles with PepsiCo, YUM Brands, eBay, Taco Bell and H&R Block.
Knight earned a bachelor’s in marketing from LSU and a master’s in business administration from the University of Cincinnati.
Smith is the president and CEO of Global Commerce and Services and has more than 25 years of experience in management and consulting. Under Smith’s leadership, GCS has grown into an award-winning tech firm with clients that include the Navy, Army, Air Force, U.S. Department of Agriculture and NASA.
She earned a bachelor’s in business administration from Southern University at New Orleans and a master’s in business administration from LSU.
Bourque was named chief financial officer of Catalyst Bancorp in February 2022, making him the youngest public bank CFO in the country. His previous roles include treasurer of Catalyst Bank, internal auditor at Home Bank and staff accountant at Wright, DeHart, Dupuis & Hutchinson.
He earned a bachelor’s in accounting from LSU and a master’s in business administration from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
