Johnstown woman semifinalist in business plan competition

Leigh Lee, owner of Our Next Adventure Travels in Johnstown, was recently one of eight semifinalists in the Carnival Cruise Line “Your Winning Plan” business success series.

Carnival held in-person events for travel advisers in six cities — San Jose, Calif., Detroit, Las Vegas, Nev., Nashville, Tenn., Denver, Richmond, Va., — and
one virtual event over the summer, and chose one semifinalist rom each in-person event and two from the virtual event.

Carnival encouraged the advisers who attended to develop business plans with a tool created in cooperation with America’s Small Business Development Centers, a partner of the U.S. Small Business Association.

Lee, a travel agent who specializes in assisting people with disabilities, said she attended the Denver event and afterward rewrote her business plan and submitted it.

She has been a travel agent for about a year and a half.

A panel from Carnival, the Cruise Lines International Association and the American Society of Travel Advisors judged the business plans submitted and chose
the semifinalists. Each semifinalist earned a $2,500 prize and the chance at taking home the additional grand prize of $5,000 to use toward executing the winning plan.

Entrepreneur Daymond John, star of ABC’s “Shark Tank,” appeared at the grand finale event in Houston on Sept. 27, where  Kimberly Stanley from Adventure by Kim in Tupelo, Miss.,  was named the grand prize winner.
