The future is bright at Fay Herron Elementary!
On Tuesday, 100 students presented their own business ideas to a panel of judges from the Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada. 25 teams of fifth grade students presented their creative ideas in a Shark Tank style pitch for a chance to win a scholarship through UNLV. A $15,000 donation will also be split among the winning teams.
For the last six weeks, these future ‘sharks’ have been learning about entrepreneurship and how to build their own business, through the Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada Entrepreneurship Program.
“Just about every single one is kind of mind-blowing our panels away, we want all of the products,” shares Will Abbott, Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada director of development. “You get to see what the inside of a mind of a 5th grader is thinking, and how they can change the world with their business idea.”
Three teams have moved forward, and will showcase their ideas for an audience May 2 at Allegiant Stadium.
The ideas moving on are the Detangler, a hairbrush that detangles hair, the Sip & Chew, a silicone sippy cup that also allows babies to chew on it for teething, and the Feel At Home Tent, a customized tent for glamping.
Good luck kids!
