Lenovo, the world’s largest personal computer manufacturer, sounded an upbeat note on the outlook for the tech industry on Thursday, despite suffering from a decline in sales and a market downturn.

“We saw clear signs of recovery across the technology sector,” said Yang Yuanqing, Lenovo’s chair and chief executive. The company said in a statement that it is “confident in its ability to resume year-on-year growth very soon”.

Lenovo reported revenues of $14.4bn for the September quarter, a 16 per cent decline from the previous year. Net income fell 54 per cent year on year to $249mn.

The group said it expects its servers, digital services and personal computer businesses to benefit from the boom in demand for artificial intelligence.
