Live: ASX set to open higher after Wall Street rises on Friday on bank profits

[ad_1]

Good morning, welcome to the ABC’s Markets blog. I’m Sue Lannin.

US stocks finished at their highest levels in a month on Friday with shares of JP  Morgan and other banks rising following their quarterly results, which kicked off earnings season.

The S&P 500 index rose 0.4 per cent to 3,999, closing at its highest level in a month.

Australian shares climbed to their highest level in six weeks on Friday after US consumer inflation fell in December, prompting hopes that the US Federal Reserve could scale back its aggressive increases in interest rates.

The ASX SPI 200 index is up 0.5 per cent to 7,310 just before the market open.
