Several hospitals across Long Island have earned top safety ratings.

The ratings are from Leapfrog Group, a Washington, DC-based nonprofit whose work includes rating the safety of hospitals across the country each year. The organization assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to nearly 3,000 acute-care hospitals nationwide, which is based on 30 evidence-based patient safety performance measures.

Hospitals on Long Island that rated A include NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, two Catholic Health hospitals – St. Francis Hospital & Heart Health Center and St. Charles Hospital – and several Northwell Health hospitals, including Mather Hospital, Peconic Bay Medical Center, South Shore University Hospital and Syosset Hospital.

“The fall Leapfrog report shows that Northwell hospitals across the region are committed to excellence and providing the highest quality and safest care to our patients at our hospitals,” Dr. Peter Silver, senior vice president at Northwell said in a written statement.

“The survey reflects our deep commitment to patient safety and continuous improvement across the care continuum, providing reassurance to our communities that we strive to do better every day,” he added.

Dr.  Charles Lucore, president of St. Francis Hospital said that this year marks the 12th consecutive A-rating for the hospital.

“Our clinical teams maintain a continued focus on patient safety and overall excellence in care, which generates consistent leading results pertaining to patient outcomes,” he said in a written statement. “Together, we are raising the bar for the level of care offered to the people of Long Island.”

Dr. Robert Grossman, CEO of NYU Langone Health said the ratings are another independent validation of the safe, quality care we offer to patients across our system.”

“Exceptional safety outcomes are the baseline at NYU Langone, so patients can be confident they will receive unparalleled care from dedicated health professionals who are always working to raise the bar,” he added.
