Letter: Will Farage & co renounce their gold-plated pensions?

[ad_1]

We note that those prominent in the Brexit campaign — Nigel Farage, Chris Heaton-Harris and Lord Hannan did not respond to the FT’s request for clarification on their European parliament pensions (“MEP pensions scheme to run out of money within two years”, Report, April 22).

In 2013, hundreds of British lecturers working in Italian universities unsuccessfully sought the support of the UK MEP, Daniel Hannan (now Lord Hannan) in the European parliament in their ongoing struggle to have equal and fair pay and pensions paid in accordance with judgments of the European Court of Justice that prohibit discrimination on the grounds of nationality.

On November 8, 2013, Hannan wrote to us saying there was nothing he could do, adding that he wished to abolish the European parliament.

We trust that Hannan will be one of the first former MEPs to avail himself of the opportunity to renounce the gold-plated pension scheme paid by the parliament he would rather see abolished.
