Dash, a “grab and go” coffee shop, was set up by husband and wife Sidney and Cristina Liebenberg in July 2022 when they opened their first shop in Broadway, Leigh.
The couple decided to forgo the corporate city life in exchange for the community in Leigh and creating a unique coffee experience.
Sidney says since opening less than 18 months ago, the business has been a success, with community spirit at the heart.
As a result, the couple have submitted a planning application to Southend Council for a second branch at 36 Leigh Road – replacing a personal training studio.
Sidney said: “The intention has always been to grow Dash into a much bigger business with several outlets.
“This would be the next step in a wider business plan.
“We always wanted to start in Leigh based on the community spirit that Leigh has.
“It has not been easy running our own business, coming into the hospitality industry. It has been a steep learning curve.
“But it has been really successful. The business has been accepted by the community who really support us.
“We have amazing customers, an amazing team of staff, and so we want to apply this same model and same principles to a second site, which will hopefully lead to the same results.
“We are super excited as we have demonstrated that the model in the Broadway work and now it is time to test if it works in a different location with potentially a lower footfall.
“We are nervous about potentially taking on another site, but excited for a new challenge.”
The business was initially created on the basis of “grab and go” where customers can come in and grab a drink, sandwich, piece of cake, or scoop of gelato, at “your convenience”.
The company has applied to replace the existing sign and projecting sign on the front of a shop at 36 Leigh Road.
A serving hatch will be added to the front of the shop. The interior would also be refitted with a new bar counter and stool seating.
