Dutch airline KLM has introduced new business class seats aboard its Boeing 777 fleet, which is typically used to service routes to Asia, South America and the UAE.
The carrier has contracted Japan-based Jamco Group to supply its new World Business Class seats, which are an updated version of the ‘Venture’ seats previously installed in its Dreamliners.
The new seats can be reclined to a flat 198cm-long bed and feature more adjustment settings, including an adjustable lower-back support and a “relax setting” with a back-massage feature.
There’s also a sliding door for increased privacy and, along with multiple charging sockets, travellers also have a wireless charging option. The cabin is arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, giving all passengers direct access to the aisle.
The carrier said the new seats are 10-15 per cent lighter than other business class seats in this market segment and were designed following “extensive customer research”.
Boet Kreiken, EVP, customer experience at KLM said: “Based on extensive customer and competitor research, we improved our World Business Class seats to ensure that customers have more privacy and comfort during their flight. The new seats are better in terms of design, technology and sustainability features.”
The carrier’s entire Boeing 777-300 and 777-200 fleet will be fitted with the new World Business Class seats along with its new premium economy cabin, known as Premium Comfort. The full revamp will be completed “during the course of the coming year”.
