RACINE — The Kiwanis Club of West Racine donated $10,000 to the proposed Racine County Ice Center on Wednesday.
Kiwanis presented the check for RCIC around 8 a.m. at Living Faith Church, 2915 Wright Ave., where the club holds its weekly meetings.
RCIC is a tax-exempt organization created to raise money to support the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a community ice arena in Racine County.
RCIC President Mike Frontier said the ice center has received great community support; it has raised about $8.2 million of its $10 million fundraising goal.
“Groups like (Kiwanis) are going to help us achieve that,” he said. “Kiwanis is passionate about helping youth and community, and we feel the Racine County Ice (Center) will certainly engage kids.”
RCIC has been in the works for about five years now, Frontier said. The project received support from the Racine County Board in June for fundraising.

“If all goes well with the county, we’d like to break ground in the fall,” Frontier said. “We’re very excited about what this arena will do for the quality of life in our community in terms of winter activities, especially.”
Currently, Racine County does not have any public indoor ice skating facilities. According to the County Board’s resolution, the arena will be built at Franksville Memorial Park or another centrally located county site.
RCIC estimated that it will cost $13 million to design and construct a 38,000-squre-foot facility.
The tentative opening date for the ice center is late 2025.
