The killing of a former lawmaker in her home has shocked Afghans and drawn attention to the lack of protection for women in the country as the Taliban continue to impose strict limitations on their rights, pushing them further out of public life.
Mursal Nabizada, who was shot dead in her home in the early hours of Sunday by “unknown, armed individuals,” according to Kabul police, was one of a few female members of parliament who stayed in Kabul after the Taliban took control of the country in August 2021.
