AMMAN — On Monday, Investment Minister Kholoud Al-Saqqaf and Cypriot
Ambassador Michalis Ioannou engaged in a discussion about the memorandum of understanding on investment cooperation, signed during the Cypriot president’s
recent visit to Jordan.
Saqqaf emphasized that this agreement paves
the way for establishing a regulatory framework for business ties between
Jordan and Cyprus, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported. She further shared
that the Ministry aims to spotlight investment prospects, recognize promising
sectors, arrange sector-specific meetings, and exchange insights into
investment policies and regulations in both countries.
The Minister affirmed the Ministry’s readiness to support Cypriot enterprises in surmounting challenges, encouraging them to
inject new investments into the Jordanian market. Additionally, Saqqaf
elaborated on the government’s efforts to enhance Jordan’s investment
attractiveness. These measures encompass enacting legislation to govern the
investment landscape, instituting laws related to public-private sector
partnerships, launching a 2023-2026 investment promotion strategy, and
introducing the Invest.jo platform.
The Cypriot ambassador announced plans for a
virtual meeting between the Jordanian Ministry of Investment and the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency in September, aimed at operationalizing the signed
agreement. Ioannou highlighted that the memorandum’s objective is to elevate
investment and business relations, noting that both nations are actively
implementing cooperative measures driven by shared objectives and political
leadership.
