UIndy wraps up major dining hall renovation
Quest Food Management Services, in partnership with the University of Indianapolis, Quest has made an investment to completely revamp the dining hall and refresh many of the retail locations around campus. In time for the return to school, the dining hall was opened to the entire first floor of Schwitzer Student Center, including a large center island to serve as a hub for providing fresh, made-to-order options in the new space.
The new experience includes a refresh of all food stations with a focus on rotating, seasonal offerings, enhanced seating options such as high-tops and open access for students to eat, study or socialize, charging stations for phones and laptops, and a new take on sustainability efforts such as the introduction of reusable to-go ware.
IAW to acquire water company
Indiana American Water announced that members of the Silver Creek Water Corporation have voted for Indiana American Water to become the provider of water service to the area in southern Indiana.
American Water and Silver Creek Water have entered into a signed agreement for the acquisition. If approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, approximately 8,000 water customers would be added to Indiana American Water’s service.
Zidan Group refinances local apartments
Leading financial services provider Merchants Capital announced it has secured a total of $184 million in loans for the refinancing of housing properties located within Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. The deal was completed in partnership with Zidan Management Group, a Midwest-based multifamily operator and developer with more than 20 properties throughout the region.
This refinancing will impact the following Indiana properties.
- Barton Farms Apartment Homes, Greenwood (262 units)
- Bexley Village, Greenwood (276 units)
More than 1,500 of Zidan Management Group’s units that offer Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing (NOAH) with rent pricing affordable to households earning at or below 80% of the area median income will be impacted.
Franciscan Health earns national award
Franciscan Health Indianapolis announced it was named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care and Coronary Intervention, according to new research released by Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients.
Franciscan is the only hospital in Indiana to receive each of the distinctions for 2024 and the hospital features the only full-service heart and vascular care program on the southside of Indianapolis. Earlier this year, the hospital introduced the Essenz Heart-Lung Machine, a device used during complex cardiac surgical procedures.
Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and complications. By focusing on what matters most, patient outcomes, Healthgrades ratings provide critical feedback for both patients and hospitals.
National Apprenticeship Week
Nov. 9-13 through The Region 5 Workforce Board calls upon the employers in Region 5 to recognize the value of Registered Apprenticeship and to promote industry awareness and expansion.
The Region 5 Workforce Board, is a nonprofit organization. Board members include business, education, labor and economic stakeholders from the eight counties including Johnson County. The board plans, implements and oversees workforce development programs in Central Indiana funded by federal and state resources.
There are over 70 registered apprenticeship programs in Central Indiana. Apprenticeships benefit employers by enabling them to create a custom-trained and loyal workforce. Registered apprenticeships play an important role in creating opportunities for individuals to earn while they learn and prepare for a pathway to good, quality jobs and well-paying careers. Apprentices benefit from immediate earnings and wage increases as they progress through training.

The Franklin Chamber recently held its Nov. meeting at Garment Factory Events. Business leaders received an update regarding Franklin Community Schools from Dr. Brooke Worland, Assistant Superintendent and Tina Gross, Chief Financial Officer.
The Franklin Chamber is seeking parade participants for the Lighted Holiday Parade taking place at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 during the Downtown Holiday Lighting event. Interested participants can find a registration form, parade route and float guidelines at the Chamber office or website https://www.franklincoc.org/holiday-parade-entries. Parade entries are requested by Nov. 27.
