Pollination continues its relentless expansion with a new office officially opened in Singapore and two new managing directors to lead the business there.

One of the appointments is for Heng Dean Law was formerly from government owned Temasek, where he led development of the GenZero decarbonisation and carbon markets platform and helped drive investment strategy, with a focus on nature-based solutions, the company said in a statement.
He was also a senior diplomat at Singapore’s embassy in Indonesia.

The second is Diego de Sartiges who hails from Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX), where he led the design and implementation of climate-related initiatives in areas such as data & analytics, carbon markets and sustainable investment. He was previously at Boston Consulting Group.

JLL

Real estate consultancy JLL has appointed academic and ESG (environment, social and governance) expert Dr Georgie Warren-Myers as its new head of ESG and risk – risk advisory APAC.

The company said Warren-Myers’ background and research in valuation, asset management, investment, planning, urban development, and sustainable construction will “add a unique perspective” to the team. Her role would include expanding the company’s climate risk analytics capabilities in the region.

Dale Winfield, head of value and risk advisory of Australia and New Zealand, said “as an associate professor in property at The University of Melbourne, Georgia’s research has focused on a wide variety of commercial real estate and housing, with a particular emphasis on climate change, risk assessment, sustainability, and housing affordability.

“She will deliver strategies to upgrade and reposition assets to meet ESG targets and provide perspective on the value and risk implications.” “Georgia’s background in valuation, asset management, investment, planning, urban development, and sustainable construction adds a unique perspective to the JLL team,” he said. The company’s global head of risk advisory, Tyrone Hodge, said Warren-Myers would work with clients to reposition assets to meet ESG targets and provide perspective on value and risk implications.”

Hardwood timber in a machine

Geoffrey Swinbourne left his role as state manager of Zenith Interiors early this year, after 13 years with the company, to start a new business that claims to innovate a hardwood timber product that’s otherwise tossed to wood chipping.

The new Crafted Timber business connects customers for timber floors, furniture “anything” with the product developed by 3RT, a partnership between Flinders University and Bosch and adhesive sealants and coatings company Henkel.

The innovation is billed by 3RT as “growing trees in a machine” for its ability to take “low-value plantation resources into premium hardwoods with the look, feel and properties of 100-year-old trees”.

Swinbourne said that 44 per cent of hardwood trees harvested in clear fell logging were considered waste and woodchipped because they were not long or straight enough for sawn logs (which need to be six metres in length).

This process takes the substandard logs, and “peels” them into veneers, which are then glued together with a water based non-toxic glue to produce the wood product.

Swinbourne told The Fifth Estate the machinery was based in Adelaide, but he hoped to be able to bring the technology to Canberra, where he is based, as part of the company’s licensing options.

The 3RT website says the glue is a “nano-glue” that “biomimics the structure of a mature tree in just hours” in a process managed by robots and the power of artificial intelligence.
