Some Japanese firms are bolstering their defense-related businesses as the government increases the budget for the sector. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries targets boosting its workforce in the segment by almost one-third.

That’s included in the company’ plan for the three years starting fiscal 2024. It also expects to nearly double capital investment on an annual basis.

Mitsubishi Heavy sees the production of warships and fighter jets increasing based on the government’s defense buildup program and its basic policy on space security.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Electric plans to add about 1,000 workers in its defense- and space-related businesses.

IHI says it will hire 100 experienced workers for its defense and other sections by March next year.
